How do I transfer a generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) .com/net/org/info/biz to name.com.au?

NOTE: Please read about name.com.au's general transfer guidelines here.

The transfer of .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz domain names usually complete within 5-10 days.
You cannot transfer a gTLD that is LOCKED, and/or in the first 60 days of registration, and/or after the domain has expired.
All gTLD domain transfers follow the procedures outlined in ICANN's Inter-Registrar Transfer Policy as follows:
  • How do I submit the gTLD transfer?
    Domain transfer orders are submitted via the name.com.au transfer tool, which can be accessed by clicking the Transfer Domain link at the top of the screen, or click here. You will be required to enter an Authorization Key. For more information on Authorization Key's, or for assistance finding your Authorization Key, click here.

  • What does the gTLD transfer process involve?
    First the domain's Administrative Contact email address is retrieved from the whois record at the respective registry, and a "request for authorisation of transfer" email is subsequently sent to the domain registrant contact. The transfer authorisation email contains instructions for approving the transfer of the domain to name.com.au, and you must respond to this email and accept the transfer authorisation.

    Providing the domain is unlocked and you accept the transfer authorization email, a transfer command request is sent to the Registry for approval within 5 days. The respective Registry will contact both registrars, and unless the current registrar denies the domain transfer, the transfer of the domain to name.com.au will complete within 5 days.

    If the transfer of the domain is successful, our system will receive the domain, and the invoice is added to your account. Clients are then notified via email of the successful completion of the transfer.

NOTE: Your credit card will be billed at the time the domain transfer is submitted. If the domain transfer does not successfully complete or it is cancelled at your request, we will refund the credit card.
