How do I transfer a .au domain to name.com.au?

NOTE: Please read about name.com.au's general transfer guidelines here.

The transfer of a .au domain name typically takes 2 days from the time that the domain Administrative Contact authorises the domain transfer. Domain transfers follow the procedures outlined in auDA's Transfers policy (change of registrar) as follows:

Transfers (Change of Registrar of Record) Policy (2003-03)
    Policy No: 2003-03
    Publication Date: 14/03/2003
    Status: Current
  • How do I submit the .au transfer?
Domain transfer orders are submitted via the name.com.au transfer tool, which can be accessed by clicking here. You can submit a transfer at any time during the Domain life cycle expect when the domain is in status "Pending Delete". You will be required to enter an Authorization Key. For more information on Authorization Key's, or for assistance finding your Authorization Key, click here.

  • What does the .au transfer process involve?
First the domain Registrant Contact email address is retrieved from the whois record at the registry, and a "request for authorisation of transfer" email is subsequently sent to the domain registrant contact. The transfer authorisation email contains instructions for approving the transfer of the domain to name.com.au, and you must respond to this email and accept the transfer authorisation.

  • Upon receipt of the acceptance of the transfer from the registrant contact, name.com.au notifies the .au Registry of the pending transfer, and the status of your domain will then change to "PENDINGTRANSFER". The domain will be in "PENDINGTRANSFER" status for 2-days, after which time the domain will be transferred to name.com.au management by the Registry. During the transfer process the domain remains active and all DNS services continue to resolve, however you cannot make any changes to the domain records during the "Pending Transfer" status period.  When the domain name transfers completes you can manage the domain using the name.com.au account management login.

NOTE: Your credit card will be billed at the time the domain transfer is submitted. If the domain transfer does not successfully complete or it is cancelled at your request, we will refund the credit card.
